Scenography at the imm cologne

Schnipselsturm, 2015

horgenglarus, Switzerland

A cloud made of hundreds of wood shavings hovers above a podium. From the distance it looks like a hologram, with the klio chair apparently floating at the centre. On taking a closer look you can see that the pieces are in fact strung along nylon threads. This installation by Stephan Hürlemann narrates a chapter from the history of the chair’s genesis. It is about the piece of rough wood that was milled and, at the end of the process, stands there as an elegant seat. Here, the parts that have been removed shape the space for what is left.
