In many open-space offices, there is a lack of retreat areas for video calls, focused work, or confidential conversations. Instead of creating such spaces as fixed architectural structures, Stephan Hürlemann wanted to develop them as part of his dynamic Dancing Office concept — as products that can be repositioned and adapted to new needs, without demolition, waste, or unnecessary use of resources.

This led to the development of the flexible room-in-room product family Talky, created in collaboration with Erich Keller.

Unlike many other sound-insulated boxes on the market, Talky activates the surrounding space through elements such as plant trays, shelves, whiteboards, pinboards, tabletops, or coat hooks. These elements can be positioned both inside and outside the box and exchanged as needed.

Thanks to its clear design language and various colour options, Talky blends harmoniously into any architectural context. Stephan Hürlemann also devoted particular attention to the interior: «I designed the micro-architecture like a product. In small spaces, the right proportions are crucial — but touch, lighting, acoustics, and even the smell all influence how the space is perceived,» says Stephan Hürlemann.
